Ugh

I feel as though it's been raining incessantly for months. Pouring down worries and stressors and drama that prolonged unemployment has weakened me for. My immunity to frustration is startlingly low. I want to destroy something every time I post another resume to some craptacular website that promises results. I want to scream at the mention of cover letters. They expect me to chose a city, a salary, health benefits, sectors. Nonprofit , corporation, relocation, waking up at 6 am thirty years down the line to realize I have no clue where my twenties went. It's like Trainspotting without the heroin. But it'd be a whole lot cooler if there was.

Trainspotting is a great movie. We can all relate to it. I think you need to find your right size bat and start swinging. Whatever makes you happy; it really doesn't matter. Probably the same old stuff everyeone's been telling you all along.

Hey Chishiki,

You should become a writer of sorts, I really like the way you format your thoughts to sentences.

Lauren... indeed the whole career and American Dream thing is crap and the sooner people recognize that the better off they'll be.

I agree with the suggestion about writing — your thoughts are original and wonderfully substantive. You're also a really talented photographer. You're an artist whose gift should be nurtured — not allowed to let wither whilst you fall into the trappings of the big lie.

Follow your path — not someone else's.

Ah, you're suppose to be a fuck up in your twenties. That's what they're there for. Ten years of uselessness.

Take all the things you should do and cram them up George Bush's ass. Do what you want to do even if it's the scariest fucking thing imaginable.

That’s my unsolicited piece of advice for the day.

Ah, but Debbye, the 30s are the new 20s, anyway. Right? Please for chrissakes let that be true.

L - As demonstrated here, anyone who's seen your writing and your photos could think of some kind of amazing work they'd want to hire you for.

I've done more than my share of this kind of waiting, too. From my perspective, you have plenty of time. But that's what all old people say...

I found this through Flickr. I really like your photos. Fret not about the job market, it always gets better. My advice is networking. The easiest way to get a job is through friends. Heck, I'm in Indianapolis, which apparenyly isn't another world away. I could probably get you a state job.

The problem is, what do you want to do? The recommendations seem to be to stick with writing. The problem with this is that it can be difficult to just write. You might need to start that on the side, while holding a typical garbage job to pay the bills.

I would find a place you want to work, and find someone there that interests you for some reason. Invite them out for lunch. As them how to get a job there, or who a goood person to speak to is. Ask how they like their job and so on. People LOVE to meet others that want to do what they want to do. They love to talk about themselves, so give em the forum. Now you have a contact. That's networking. Now, when you submit a resume, give that person a buzz and let them know the resume went in. They will then, ideally, be able to exert at least some sort of influence.

Good luck!

hEY, i'M HERE IN Lexington. The frenetic is what I notice w/ the rain--it is as if I am suppose to reconcile to the confusion across the vista out my front door: the rain relentlessly yelling, you can't surfeit me, and there is no where to go. Who said a rain remits the mood of peace/serenity. Ah, but really the gray day never gets me under its thumb/ I just can't think that way... it just is. And Oxford was cool in '86, met a Jamaican dude--U already know. But I was there to study. The views around the city: hill-ish & green like KY...

Sorry to read that. It seems that July isn't a good month for anybody. Nevertheless, I hope you will find something at last.

Hi,am new to your blog, and like the others said u have a great way of expressing your thoughts, and the pictures are superb. I do understand what unemployment means, and wish i could say i could land you a job too.I do agree with what Joey D said, networking is the key - its what helped me in my no-job-no-money-hate-my-life phase. Also, i dont know if this would help, and i do hope you get The job real soon - in the mean time - how about you making a portfolio of your pictures and getting a studio/gallery to put them up as an art exhibit ? Sometimes, and I amassuming this is not your main line of work - galleries use photos of amateurs as exhibit material - it may help in the networking thingie, and ofcourse get you do 'tout' one area of which we all bloggers think is one of your expertises' (oooopps, does that word exist ?).
Good luck

I just found your blog from seeing a photo of yours on the Explore page of Flickr.

Sorry to hear about the employment situation, but like others have mentioned, your writing is refreshing and your photos are really good. I definitely think you could take some of our more quirky photos and write some fiction (maybe 2,000 words) around it which you could probably sell quite easily.

If you're interested in writing for a living, check out the copywriting section of digital point forums, it is possible to earn a reasonable income from writing web articles for other people. All you have to do is settle on some topics you feel comfortable writing about, and not be upset if a client makes changes to your article to better suit their needs.
